Gone fishing: Bucko (Col Buchanan) and Scatman (Adam Comber) fishing in the water hole in Pitt Street Mortdale outside the local Hotel. Bucko says it is the first time in many years that fishing is on the improve in our local streets. Picture: Jane DysonThe article “Fish were biting in pothole” (Leader, September 24) was certainly hilarious.
We deserve some light relief after that intense electoral campaign! However, having such a large pothole in a major thoroughfare is dangerous and unacceptable.
This is especially so in Pitt Street Mortdale, as only months ago the Leader highlighted the multitude of vacant shops in the vicinity.
Hurstville Council should be more active in forcing Sydney Water and other utilities to fix any damage they cause.
A similar situation went on for months recently in Gordon Street, Hurstville. A large pool of water, damaged bitumen and a circle of witches hats — and neither Sydney Water nor the council was overly concerned about it.
