ANOTHER 27 small reserves have been identified for rezoning on top of the existing 29.
Sites with play equipment or deemed to have sufficient open space will not be rezoned. The council could receive $9.2 million for the 27 sites, including Nella Dan Avenue, Tregear, Palmyra Avenue, Lethbridge Park, Clune Reserve, Blackett, Bulolo Place, Whalan, and Edwina Place, Plumpton.
Councillors are expected to debate the report at next week’s meeting.
“Liberal councillors don’t understand,” Cr Stephen Bali said.
“There are five sites that are 10 square metres which should be sold but they’re not on either list. This is just a money grabbing exercise.”
Independent councillor Russ Dickens said parks should be sold if they’re not being used but stressed the need for community consultation.
Formal planning will be undertaken for the sites if endorsed by council.
“The sites have undergone extensive assessment and will be subject to community consultation as part of the process,” a spokeswoman said.
“Community comment and the proposal will be forwarded to the Department of Planning and Infrastructure.”
