Bomber has his eyes on picking up the big double

Eagle rock: Striker Robbie Younis, coach Brian Brown, captain Chris Tadrosse and assistant coach Cliff Pointer, rejoice after the recent grand final victory.SUCCESSFUL Bonnyrigg White Eagles coach Brian Brown will be back at the helm again next year.

The man nicknamed “Bomber” is already planning the next assault after his team recently won the National Premier Leagues NSW Men’s Elite 1 competition grand final.

The Eagles defeated Rockdale City Suns, 1-0, at Centrebet Stadium, with class striker Robbie Younis netting the winner.

Just a fortnight after coaching another grand final win in this year’s National Premiers League’s Men’s Elite 1 competition, the wily mentor isn’t resting on his laurels.

Brown has been coaching long enough to know just because you have a winning season it doesn’t guarantee success the next year.

With the Eagles since 2009 on a handshake agreement with club secretary George Mandic, Brown has set high standards again next year.

“Our target will be to go one better than this season and win the double,” Brown said.

Brown has set the team the goal of winning the premiership trophy, for the team which finishes first after the 22 rounds of the Football NSW competition and winning another grand final.

The Eagles finished third in this year’s premiership on 43 points, two behind neighbouring Sydney United 58 FC, which won the trophy.

Under Brown’s coaching over the past five seasons, the Eagles have won premierships in 2010 and 2012 and have made three grand finals.

Before his time with the Eagles, Brown also enjoyed success at Sutherland Sharks winning a title in 2008.

“We have re-signed all the players that played a big part in this year’s success, all the ones we wanted to keep,” the 56-year-old coach said.

“The only ones we have not kept are players who were on the fringe of making the top grade.

“We are expecting younger players like Aaron Petersen, Jordan Crighton, Nikola Todoroski to be regular first team starters next year.

“So this will keep our current players working very hard to keep their spot in the team.”
